| In his earliest years, Rien Schot visited the Alps quite often with his family. Fascinated by its natural beauty, he developed a broad interest for nature in general and flowers in particular. When he was ten years old he started to specialise on wild Orchids. After the completion of his studies in Electronics and Computer Sciences at Delft University, he became in the position to visit more frequently European and non-European orchid-rich areas. Being 35 years old, his passion for wild Orchids still continues. He is active in photographing and mapping orchids. He is the chairman of the Dutch Society for European Orchids (WEO: www.knnv.nl/europorchidwg). Currently, Rien is living with his wife Marja and his three children in Amersfoort. When not searching for orchids, he has has normal job as a technical sales manager within IBM Software Group. |
