Mark Zekhuis (1968) studied environmental science at the Rijks Hogeschool IJsselland with a specialisation on Technical Aspects of Nature and Landscape Protection. His masters thesis dealed with the relationship of birds and rice fields in Suriname and additionally with the protection of Meles meles in the province of Drenthe. After his studies, he worked at the Rijksinstituut voor Zee en Kust where he studied the relationship between the Oystercatcher and its food supplies. In 1997, he went to Landschap Overijssel, an organisation aiming to protect the original small scale landscape of this province. Mark is an active birdwatcher, but he also pays attention to mammals, reptiles, fishes, plants, dragonflies and amphibians. He often goes abroad for studying and photographing. He visited Spain, Tunesia, Israel, Poland, Albania, Greece, Slovenia, Suriname, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Gambia. |
