| A substantial part of the slides in the Saxifraga collection were made by Janus Verkerk, who is mainly interested in birds, butterflies, dragonflies, mammals and funghi. His butterfly pictures in particular are renowned. He travelled in Europe, but his travels outside Europe include countries such as Canada, India, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya and Sri Lanka. Recently he was a co-editor for a book dealing with nature in The Hoeksche Waard, a polder area in the western part of The Netherlands. |
