Jan Boersema

Jan J. Boersema (1947) got his academic training as a biologist, major ethology, at the University of Groningen and lectured on biology and environmental sciences at the same University. In 1994 he became Reader in Environmental Science and Philosophy at Leiden University and at the same time project director at the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. In 2002 he was appointed as special professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where he is based in two institutes: Blaise Pascal Institute (Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Science, Society and Religion; www.blaisepascal.nl ) and IVM (Institute for Environmental Studies; www.ivm.nl ). Jan Boersema is married with three grown-up children and lives in Leiden. Over the past twenty years he has been engaged in (mountain) walking, twitching and photography, preferably together.
