| H.P. Gorter |
| Dr H.P. Gorter (1914-2001) H.P. (Hans) Gorter was affiliated with Natuurmonumenten, the Dutch leading nature protection organisation from 1940-1979. He was director of Natuurmonumenten since 1947. He is generally considered as one of the most influential Dutch nature protectors of the second part of the last century. His substantial knowledge in the field of nature protection went hand in hand with expertise and insight into complex situations. For this reason, the University of Utrecht gave him a honorary doctorate in Mathematics and Natural Science. In line with his work, but also as a hobby, he photographed many natural areas, landscapes and wild flowers. He made many pictures in the Netherlands, but his photographic activities included also countries such as Norway, Ireland and France. The knowledge of flowers was in particular the domain of his wife Lies Gorter-ter Pelwijk. After his death in 2001, the family had the intention to give Hans Gorter’s slides a second life and therefore they donated them to Saxifraga. |
